PI paste (polyimide paste, Polyimide Varnish) is a substrate material required for the production of flexible AMOLED display screens. It is coated and cured into PI film (polyimide film) in the front-end manufacturing process of AMOLED panels to make flexible optical substrates, replacing glass substrates used in rigid AMOLED screens and LCD screens to realize the bendability of the screens. The performance requirements of PI slurry after film formation are very strict, and it can meet the requirements of high temperature resistance, low thermal expansion coefficient, low water absorption, surface flatness and bending resistance at the same time. It is the flexible substrate material with the best comprehensive performance at present.
PI paste for flexible AMOLED substrates is mainly monopolized by a few foreign companies such as UBE (UBE) and Kaneka (Kaneka). There are also a number of domestic enterprises to enter the PI slurry market, the current Wuhan soft show, China Science and Technology Jiuyuan, Suzhou Jucui, Wuhan Yide, Dalton, Suzhou Zuner and other materials enterprises have a layout.
At present, the yellow PI paste used in mass production is basically small-sized flexible AMOLED. In the future, transparent PI paste will be used for under-screen cameras and large-sized rollable televisions. Due to the need to take into account light transmittance, heat resistance and peelability, the technical difficulty of transparent PI paste is much greater than that of yellow substrate PI, the unit price will be higher, and the future growth space will be expected. CINNO Research predicts that by 2025, the total size of the global flexible AMOLED substrate PI paste market will exceed $0.4 billion, with a compound annual growth rate of 31.9 percent from 2020 to 2025.
